Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT) is among the major application of fiber optic probes in medical laser therapy. This minimally invasive procedure appears to be very successful for the treatment of varicose veins and is now currently used in many countries.
Different designs of fiber probes are existing with an increasing interest for a “ring” emission of the laser light.
Fiber
Our fiber is USP Class VI certified, non toxic and biocompatible.
Standard product is using a 600 µm core silica fiber 3m long. However different dimension can be produced according to the medical procedure and the type of laser.
Connector
The probe is equipped with the “Powershot”tm SMA connector manufactured by SEDI-ATI. This connector is specially designed for power application of disposable probes where cost issue is important. A free standing ferrule with air gap around the fiber allows an excellent power handling and the assembly technique avoid any stress on the fiber itself.
Distal end
The simplest design is a perpendicular cleave of the fiber end.
To avoid the aggressive sharp end SEDI-ATI offers a so called “a-traumatic” design where the fiber distal end is fused into a half sphere.
The most efficient design is obtained by a specific shaping of the fiber end which is enclosed in a silica capillary. The result is an annular emission of the laser energy for homogenous action on the vein wall
Jacket
“Ring” fibers with a capillary assembly at the distal end are jacketed with a biocompatible material. This jacket has cm marking to help visualization of the fiber introduction into the vein.
